Q&A with Silent Army

Silent Army is a Melbourne based small press publisher that has been making comic art anthologies, artist books and zines since 2002. We print regularly but don’t make everything available online. Silent Army Comic Art Collective has worked with many partners since 2002 including : Arts Victoria, Australian Council for the Arts, Melbourne City Library services Signal Arts, National Gallery of Australia, NGV Studio, Arts Victoria and Yarra City Arts.

When and why did you start making zines?

Silent Army started printing zines in 2002. Silent Army started printing comic anthology zines because there were not enough comic based zines available at the time and we wanted to put the collective ideal into comics.

What is your favourite thing about zines?

They are affordable art and encourage reading more.

Do you have a favourite zine (aside from your own!)? What is it and why do you like it?

You zine is a great one – free and easy to read.
