Haneen Mahmood Martin is a visual artist, writer and curator working behind the scenes in the music industry in Darwin. Her work emphasises the importance of being a visible and vocal woman of colour in the creative industry and the significance of creating work that is mostly centred around her experiences as a migrant Arab-Malay Muslim woman in Australia post 9-11. Recurring themes in her work include: exoticism, everyday racism, diaspora and displacement, and fighting to embrace your culture while trying to be accepted in contemporary Australia. These themes manifest through printmaking, embroidery, illustration, poetry and personal essays.
